There have been general celebrations and partying on
Singapore over the past 20 hours. The (shortened) race finish was called at
quite short notice. I was off watch at the time. At about 11.30 Ben came into
the ghetto to let us know we were finished and came 7th. He is delighted
because, as we beat New York, we think we will maintain our 4th place overall.
We got up and the whole crew had a celebratory tot of rum. Following lunch, we
rendezvoused with New York and went for a swim off the back of the boat. A long
line was put out with a fender on the end and Ben drove the boat forward, with
lots of us having a ride while hanging on to the rope. Tremendous fun!
The atmosphere last night was relaxed, partying with
music playing on deck and chatting going on long into the night. We've now
split into 4 watches so we can have more sleep overnight. I was on 9 - midnight,
so made the bread, my first bread making of this trip. In the day time the plan
is to be working on the boat, servicing everything, so that all the work will
be done before we reach Panama. As we are motoring we are allowed on deck
during the day without a life jacket, which is bliss. We must still wear one at
night.
Chantal is planning a Bridge school daily in the
evenings. It was the last thing on my mind yesterday, but I'll probably join in
with that today, to refresh my memory.
Apparently we cannot count on getting laundry done in
Panama, so we've to do our laundry on the boat over the next few days. This
means washing the clothes in sea water with some detergent, then just one rinse
with fresh water.
It is as though the crew have all taking a big sigh and
relaxed with a lovely feel of the pressure being off, but quietly still
attending to what needs to be done.
